Biography
Jazsalyn is an artist and technologist developing Ancestral Intelligence (2020-present), a framework exploring alternative AI and early forms of knowledge systems, philosophies, and traditions passed down through generations within indigenous and diasporic communities.
Working where fiction and reality collide, her practice considers issues regarding data loss, memory restoration, and recovering Ancestral Intelligence through post-digital media and re-indigenization.
She develops long-term projects with game engines, algorithmic processes, and video art to explore counter-futures and complex human-to-nonhuman knowledge systems. As a lecturer at The New School, she has built curricula on African and Diaspora rituals as speculative technology. She also organizes Black Beyond, an experimental, artist-led curatorial project defining alternate realities for (b)lackness.
Her work has been supported by Serpentine Arts Technologies, New Museum, Pioneer Works, and Creative Time. She has lectured at institutions including Harvard University and has been featured in Contemporary And, Cultured Magazine, Vogue, and The New Yorker.
